Nearly two weeks ago, I attended a book signing in Fairhope, AL. It was for Condoleezza Rice's new book, No Higher Honor.
We were provided information beforehand that instructed us not to talk to her, that she would not be speaking, there would be no personalizations in the signing, and no pictures were allowed except from afar. Once we made our way inside to the small signing venue, we found Ms. Rice very cordial. She looked up, smiled and said "hello" and signed her name on the appropriate page of the book. And, then we were quickly whisked away by the Secret Service agents on duty, so the next people in line could step up for the signing. I understand that they really did need to keep the line moving and not let people linger inside.
I truly admire this woman and feel honored to have seen her and to have her signature on the book I'd purchased that day.

All in all, I'd say it was a good experience, and I look forward to reading her book after the first of the year. Still, I wonder what will become of book signings with so many people going with the newfangled e-readers???
