Mesh bows and houndstooth check!

TWhen we first arrived here in the fall, I immediately noticed the prolific use of 12-inch wide colored mesh made into huge bows adorning front doors, mailboxes, business office and store entrances. In the fall, the colors were the typical gold, rust, orange, brown, etc. At Christmas time it was mostly red and green; however, I saw yellow, and on one business entrance hot pink! I guess I am curiously drawn to the decor because I never saw this type of material used up north. As with anything, some use of this is done in a tasteful way; others not so much!

The other thing that is seen EVERYWHERE  down here is houndstooth check. On EVERYTHING!

Alabamans are football crazy! Coming from Ohio, I didn't think anyone could be more over-the-moon for football than those of us from the Buckeye state. However, I do think Ohio State has a much larger fan base.  I recently discussed this with a current Alabama resident who is a native of Ohio and also taught for a time at Ohio State. He concurs!
The ubiquitous houndstooth check is distinctive and is put to use in every imaginable way. Why black and white houndstooth check?  The legendary University of Alabama coach, Bear Bryant, always wore a houndstooth checked hat.

I personally love this scarf and wouldn't mind having one. I probably will come around to being a University of Alabama fan one of these days --- maybe as soon as Monday night --- ROLL TIDE! But the Crimson Tide will never replace my allegiance to the Buckeyes of Ohio State!!!
